New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted a Spanish-language video on Friday providing residents with specific instructions for interacting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The clip, published on X, surpassed 7 million views within hours of release. In the video, Mamdani outlines legal rights for individuals who encounter federal officers.

Mamdani stated that ICE agents generally cannot enter private spaces, including homes, schools, hospitals, and private workplace areas, without a judicial warrant signed by a judge. He also advised viewers on their right to remain silent during encounters. The mayor characterized the current environment as frightening for many residents in the nation's largest city.

Republican officials quickly criticized the post on social media, arguing the advice encouraged obstruction of federal law enforcement. Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas noted that Mamdani became a citizen less than a decade ago. Gill described the video as the mayor coaching residents in a foreign language on avoiding lawful deportation.

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah pointed out that the video did not urge viewers to abide by United States laws. He stated that the message was not made for the benefit of the people of the United States. Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio used the single word "Treason" to describe the mayor's actions.

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina argued that individuals present in the country illegally are not New Yorkers. Actor Dean Cain, who appeared on X, said that those here legally have no reason to fear ICE. He called the mayor dangerous. Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren accused foreign-born Democrats of instructing residents on how to evade the law.

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, labeled the statement dangerous incitement full of disturbing falsehoods. He warned that the guidance could put lives in danger. Mamdani's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

The post aligns with Mamdani's previous stance against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement agenda. As mayor, he signed an executive order strengthening New York City sanctuary policies. That order directs city agencies to limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities and to protect personal information. It also mandates expanded know-your-rights training for city employees.
