Six Points Separate Madrid and Barcelona Before Sunday Clash

Real Madrid enters Sunday’s match at Camp Nou with a six-point deficit. A win would cut that gap in half. Barcelona currently leads La Liga and aims to extend that advantage to nine points.

Jose Mourinho returns to the fixture as Real Madrid manager. The 63-year-old Portuguese coach has managed 27 matches against Barcelona and 17 El Clasico games from the bench. Florentino Perez, Real Madrid president, appointed Mourinho in 2010 to challenge Pep Guardiola’s side. Perez hopes this appointment brings the league title back to the Bernabeu for the second time.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said he has the highest respect for Mourinho. Flick noted that Mourinho manages teams at this level for many years with consistent success. "When you’re managing teams on this level for so many years and you always have success, it’s about quality," Flick said. He described the current Barcelona squad as being in an initial phase of development.

Flick’s team lost its first match of the season on Tuesday. They fell 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The defeat provided specific areas for improvement before the league clash. Flick said the team analyzed the game and identified situations needing correction. "We have to grow as a team," Flick said. He viewed the upcoming match as an opportunity to challenge the squad.

Real Madrid has won its last four matches. A victory on Sunday would boost confidence for a team that has lost six of the last seven El Clasicos. Mourinho stated that prior form does not influence the outcome of this specific rivalry. "In El Clasico, it doesn’t matter what you did before," Mourinho said. He added that the football world normally stops to watch the match.

Flick called the contest the best match in their sport. He acknowledged that while the team plays for three points, the importance exceeds the score. Both managers expect a unique and incredible game. The match is scheduled for Sunday at Camp Nou.
