Minnesota high school football reached its regular season finale Friday night, concluding a campaign that featured a mix of dominant performances and late-game upsets across the state's largest classification.
Roseville emerged as the primary beneficiary of the final day. The Raiders defeated Coon Rapids 24-14 to claim the Metro Maroon subdistrict title. This victory marked the end of a season in which the team went 4-4, a record that stands as their best since 2017. Senior quarterback Chase Browning led the offense with 162 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Browning credited the team's sustained effort for the turnaround. "It's an amazing feeling," he said. "I don't even have words for it. We've all worked so hard. It's great to see it finally paying off."
Other results across the East Metro reshaped the playoff seeding picture. Centennial defeated Anoka 38-6, a win that likely secures the Cougars a No. 3 seed. The Anoka squad had not been held to single-digit scoring until this game. Mounds View took the Metro East title with a 22-16 win over White Bear Lake. Tanner Jude scored on a one-yard run with 65 seconds left, and Preston Johnson sealed the result with an interception.
In the south metro, Lakeville South pulled off a dramatic upset. Sophomore kicker Dylan Nelson kicked a 36-yard field goal with one second remaining to defeat Rosemount 17-14. This win complicates the seeding landscape for the upcoming playoffs.
Individual performances also defined the night. Forest Lake running back Mack Jurkovich rushed for 245 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-13 win over Stillwater. The result locked in a No. 2 seed for the Rangers. Jurkovich finished the regular season with 1,600 rushing yards and has committed to St. Thomas. Park's Manny Vargas added two scores in an 18-10 win over Eastview, including a 75-yard punt return.
East Ridge closed its season with a 42-31 victory over Woodbury. Logan Tretter ran for two touchdowns, and Elias Mather returned an interception for a late score to put the game away.
