Ryleigh Schoonover has joined the Fresno State women’s basketball program, bringing a background of sustained local success to the college ranks. The former Clovis West standout is entering her first season with the Bulldogs as part of a freshman class that is already drawing attention from coaches and scouts.

The decision to stay close to home follows a long run of dominance at the high school level. Clovis West girls basketball has captured Central Section championships for 14 consecutive years. That streak has made winning a standard expectation within the program. Coach Craig Campbell described the team’s ongoing goal as staying competitive every season, noting that while they may not win the title annually, they intend to remain in the hunt consistently.

Schoonover cited the local connection as a key factor in her recruitment. She described wearing the valley “V” on her jersey as a unique experience that players outside the area often do not fully understand. Her commitment to Fresno State places her in a program that is actively competing for a Pac-12 championship, a step up in competition from the section level.

Fresno State head coach Ryan McCarthy praised Schoonover’s readiness for the college game. He identified her as the best player in the region for the 2026 class, stating that she proved his assessment immediately upon arrival. McCarthy highlighted that her time in a winning high school program has prepared her for the expectations of college basketball. He noted that her previous team’s primary focus was victory, a mindset he expects to see on the floor at Fresno State.

Schoonover credited her high school coach for preparing her for the next level. She said that the standard of play at both Clovis West and Fresno State is similarly demanding. “Everything is the standard,” she said, reflecting on the consistency of expectations between the two programs.

The team’s season begins in less than two weeks with a matchup against UC Merced. Schoonover will make her college debut at the Save Mart Center. Campbell believes the freshman is still developing her full potential. He told the staff at Fresno State that she is only beginning to show what she is capable of as a player.

The signing adds depth to a roster that is entering a new academic year. Schoonover’s arrival marks the next phase of her career after years of leading the Golden Eagles to local titles. Her presence on the court will be tested as the Bulldogs begin their 2026 season.
