U.S. 2 is shut down in both directions west of Monroe as of Tuesday morning, following a multi-vehicle collision. The Washington State Department of Transportation confirmed the closure at 6:15 a.m., leaving no estimated time for reopening while crews assess the damage.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding stated that at least three cars were involved in the crash, with the possibility of a fourth. One vehicle rolled over, necessitating that emergency responders extricate the driver. Two additional people were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The blockage is total for through traffic. Westbound lanes are closed at Fryelands Boulevard, located at milepost 13. Eastbound lanes are closed at Roosevelt Road, at milepost 10.5. Drivers are being directed to seek alternate routes until the scene is cleared.

The patrol has limited information on the cause of the accident at this stage. More details regarding how the vehicles collided are expected to be released as the investigation proceeds. The scene remains active with state transportation and law enforcement personnel present.

This closure impacts a major east-west corridor in King County. The last confirmed status update indicates that traffic is still stopped in both directions. No specific timeline for partial or full restoration of service has been provided by officials.
