A 23-year-old man from Givatayim was arrested on Saturday night for shoving a bodyguard assigned to protect Naftali Bennett. The incident occurred in Tel Aviv while Bennett spoke at a rally demanding a commission of inquiry into the October 7 attacks.
Sources said the man was under the influence of alcohol. He shouted the slogan 'Only Bibi' at Bennett and his staff. The phrase supports Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The man attempted to close the distance between himself and the former prime minister despite warnings from security personnel.
Guards tried to keep the man outside the security perimeter. One guard pushed him back. The man did not step away. Instead, he confronted the guard and shoved him in return. Security staff subdued the man and held him at the scene while they called for backup.
Police officers arrived at the park and took the suspect into custody. They transported him to a police station for questioning. An initial check revealed that the man had no prior criminal record. Investigators are reviewing the circumstances of the confrontation.
Bennett served as prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022. He currently chairs the B'Yachad party. The incident took place days before the 2026 Knesset elections. IDF soldiers cast their ballots at military polling stations earlier this week.
