Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis was hospitalized on Wednesday following a medical emergency at the university's athletic facility. T. Carlton Lewis, the player's father, announced the news on social media, confirming that Julian was moved to a local hospital shortly after the incident occurred.

The family has requested privacy during this time, and specific details regarding the nature of the emergency have not been released. Colorado Athletics issued a statement expressing full support for Lewis and his family. The department said it would continue to assist in his recovery and noted that his health remains its top priority.

Lewis is currently in his second season with the Buffaloes. He joined the program in the 2025 signing class as a four-star recruit from Carrollton High School in Georgia. During that recruiting cycle, 247Sports ranked him as the No. 10 quarterback in the country.

The quarterback won the starting position out of training camp this fall. He started the first four games of the season, including the opener against Georgia Tech. In that contest, Lewis threw a late touchdown pass to Charlie Williams to secure a road victory. However, the offense struggled to find consistency, and Isaac Wilson has served as the starter for the last three games.

Head coach Deion Sanders addressed the possibility of Lewis reclaiming the starting role on Tuesday, one day before the hospitalization. Sanders told 247Sports that the decision rests with the player. "That's on him," Sanders said. "I don't treat people unfairly. I don't play games with young men and their careers and hate on folks."

Sanders added that he believes he is too forgiving and kind to hold grudges. He suggested that insiders in the locker room understand the dynamics better than outsiders. "You've got to always understand that we may know a little more than you do, because we're inside the locker room," Sanders said.

In eight career appearances for Colorado, Lewis has completed 59.8 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 1,322 yards, 10 touchdowns, and two interceptions.
