Kentucky Tops College Football Resume Rankings as Texas Rises Despite Two Losses
New metric-based rankings place the Wildcats at No. 1 and the Longhorns at No. 5, prioritizing the strength of opponents over simple win-loss records.

Kentucky sits at the top of the Week 9 college football resume rankings.
The Wildcats hold the No. 1 spot in the latest list released by CBS Sports on October 29.
Texas, which has lost two games, currently holds the No. 5 position.
The rankings rely on the CFB Metrics Consensus, a tool that combines ten different power ratings into a single number.
This approach aims to remove bias from any single rating system by measuring the true difficulty of each opponent.
Kentucky’s record includes a win over LSU, which is ranked in the AP poll.
The Wildcats also secured road victories against Texas A&M, South Carolina, and Oklahoma.
All three of those opponents are considered top-30 teams in the CFB Metrics Consensus.
This depth gives Kentucky a clear advantage over No. 2 UCLA in the new standings.
Texas benefits from the metric’s focus on the quality of competition faced.
The Longhorns recently defeated Ole Miss, a team currently ranked No. 12 in the AP poll.
In the CFB Metrics Consensus, however, Ole Miss is rated as the No. 9 team in the nation, making the Texas win more valuable on paper than the AP poll suggests. Texas also beat No. 1 Ohio State and won on the road against No. 11 Texas earlier in the season. The system assigns points based on the likelihood that an average No. 25 team would win a specific game. A neutral-site win over the No. 26 team adds 0.49 to a team’s score because the No. 25 team wins roughly 51% of the time in that matchup. Road victories carry more weight than home wins in the calculation. Auburn gained 0.91 points for its win at No. 4 Georgia. That score reflects the fact that the average No. 25 team would win that game only 9% of the time. The formula is modeled after the NCAA’s Wins Above Bubble metric used in college basketball.
