Jennifer Lawrence has confirmed her return to the Hunger Games franchise, ending months of speculation regarding her participation in the upcoming prequel. She will reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen in the film, which is scheduled for a theatrical release next month. This confirmation follows a period of uncertainty about whether the lead actress would return to the series after the original four-film saga concluded.

Lawrence disclosed the news during a recent conversation with Alex Cooper, the host of the Call Her Daddy podcast. She described the production environment as familiar because the same crew members who worked on the original films are returning for this project. "It was the same crew. It was the same camera guys, the same AD, who I've worked with a million times," she said. She characterized the experience of returning to the set as "unbelievable." The film opens in theaters on Nov. 20.

The actress also confirmed that Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson have rejoined the cast. Their involvement had been rumored for some time before this official announcement. Lawrence stated that the reunion with her former co-stars was an emotional experience. She noted that she and Hutcherson maintained close physical proximity on set, often keeping their arms around each other. "It was so beautiful," she said. Harrelson maintained his characteristic style of arrival, entering Lawrence's hotel room through a window rather than the door. "It wouldn't be the same if he listened to boundaries and used a door," she joked.

The prequel, titled In Sunrise on the Reaping, is set 24 years before the events of the first film. The story centers on a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, a character who is a mentor in the original series. Joseph Zada portrays the young Abernathy in this installment. The plot follows his participation in the 50th Hunger Games, an event known as the Second Quarter Quell. This specific edition of the games requires twice the usual number of tributes to fight to the death.

Ralph Fiennes appears in the film as President Snow. The movie is expected to feature the legacy characters from the original films, likely appearing through flashforwards or a framing device. Lawrence also shared a behind-the-scenes memory from the original franchise. She recalled cutting her hair into a pixie cut in 2013 after producers initially refused to provide a wig for the Mockingjay films. She had grown weary of dyeing her hair brown for the role and described the resulting haircut as "the worst haircut anyone has ever seen in their life." The style subsequently became widely recognized.

The release of this prequel marks the next chapter for the intellectual property. The film brings back key actors from the original cast while introducing new leads to tell the backstory of the franchise. The production utilizes the same core crew, maintaining continuity with the earlier installments. The movie will hit theaters in 26 days, offering a new perspective on the world established in the previous films.
