Matt Coronato recorded a career-high four points with one goal and three assists as the Calgary Flames defeated the Seattle Kraken 6-2 on Friday night in Calgary, Alberta.
Joel Farabee contributed a goal and two assists to help the Flames secure their fifth consecutive home victory. Morgan Frost and Matvei Gridin each tallied a goal and an assist, while Aydar Suniev and Ryan Strome also found the back of the net for Calgary. The team never trailed during the contest and converted both of its power-play chances. This performance improved their recent power-play record to nine goals in 20 attempts over their last seven games.
Seattle managed two goals, with Freddy Gaudreau scoring his seventh of the season and Mackie Samoskevich adding a tally. The Kraken had previously defeated Calgary 6-1 twice during the first week of the season. The loss caps a rough stretch for Seattle's penalty kill, which has allowed 10 goals on 17 attempts over the last six games.
Dustin Wolf, making his first start since Oct. 15, stopped 20 shots to improve his season record to 2-4-0. Philipp Grubauer started for Seattle but was pulled after surrendering four goals on 14 shots. Joey Daccord entered in relief and recorded 11 saves.
Mikael Backlund reached a career milestone with an assist on Farabee's goal. The play gave Backlund 610 points, comprising 234 goals and 376 assists. He moved ahead of Johnny Gaudreau to take sole possession of fifth place on Calgary's career scoring list. He now sits six points behind Joe Nieuwendyk for fourth place.
The Flames enter this game after a 4-0 loss to Edmonton on Wednesday that snapped a four-game winning streak. Seattle will host Calgary again next Wednesday. The Flames begin a road trip Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.
The Kraken's defensive unit faced a specific challenge against Calgary's sustained pressure. The team's recent struggles on the penalty kill stand in contrast to their early-season dominance over the same opponent.
