Residents of Cheyenne and Laramie can expect a cool and wet stretch of weather starting Sunday. The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service predicts several rounds of precipitation will move through the region over the next two days.

The first round of scattered showers is arriving from the southwest this morning under mostly cloudy skies. A second system will develop after sunset, bringing the potential for thunderstorms and localized heavy rainfall, particularly in western Nebraska. This initial burst of weather is expected to end early Monday morning, followed by a brief lull.

By Monday morning, showers will retreat to Carbon, Converse, and Niobrara counties. The cloud cover will then fill back in toward the southeast, continuing through Monday evening. This later system will introduce colder air into the region, causing snow levels to drop significantly.

Snow lines are projected to fall to approximately 7,000 feet by Monday morning. By Monday evening, the threshold may drop as low as 5,000 feet. While accumulating snow is expected above 7,000 feet, there is a possibility of accumulation between 5,000 and 7,000 feet, though forecast confidence for that lower band is lower.

The precipitation is scheduled to stop by Tuesday morning. Drivers in the mountains should plan for potential snow and wet roads during the transition from rain to snow on Monday.
