Israel Police moved to disperse a violent demonstration in Jerusalem on Sunday evening after protesters blocked roads and threw objects at officers.
The clashes took place on Haim Bar-Lev Boulevard, where demonstrators stopped traffic and confronted police personnel, according to a police statement. An officer declared the gathering unlawful and ordered the crowd to disperse. Some protesters refused to leave and began hurling objects at the responding officers.
Officers from the Lev HaBira police station, assisted by Border Police, used force to restore order. They cleared the protesters and reopened the blocked roads. No injuries or arrests were reported in the Jerusalem incident as of the latest police update.
Separate violent protests occurred in Beit Shemesh later that night. Two young men sustained injuries to their feet when a concrete block fell on them. Police said the men had apparently pushed the block as part of a crowd of hundreds that set fire to bins and damaged infrastructure.
Police clarified that the injury incident occurred in an area where no officers were present. They stated there was no connection between the police dispersal efforts and the injuries to the two men. Medical officials confirmed that two people were evacuated from the scene, apparently injured during the dispersal of the rioters.
