Residents and visitors in the Coastal Bend region have a packed slate of options for the upcoming weekend, ranging from free cultural gatherings to low-cost family entertainment. The schedule emphasizes community participation and personal choice, allowing individuals to select events that fit their interests and budgets without significant expense.
The centerpiece of the weekend is the 19th annual Día de los Muertos Street Festival, taking place this Saturday in downtown Corpus Christi. The event is free to attend and will occupy 10 blocks of the city center. Programming runs from 1 p.m. to midnight and includes live music, food vendors, art displays, and cultural performances. A community ofrenda, or altar, will be set up to allow families to honor deceased loved ones, reflecting the holiday’s focus on remembering and celebrating past lives.
For those preferring a horror-themed atmosphere, the Villain Invasion Halloween Fest will occupy the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina on both Saturday and Sunday. The event features meetings with horror movie actors, costume contests, and gaming tournaments. Weekend passes begin at $20, with free admission for children aged 12 and under. Visitors who bring two nonperishable food items for the Coastal Bend Food Bank will receive a special-edition event poster, provided supplies last.
Active participants can join the Monster Mash Cupcake Dash at Water's Edge Park on Saturday morning. The event offers 5K, 10K, and 2-mile walk options. Participants are encouraged to dress up, and every finisher receives a cupcake. Proceeds from the event support Family Counseling Services, an organization providing mental health care across the Coastal Bend region.
Families seeking a lower-key activity can visit Asbury Methodist Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon for a pumpkin painting session. Attendees can purchase a pumpkin and decorate it with family members. The church’s pumpkin patch will remain open until Halloween for those who wish to visit later in the week.
A new addition to the local calendar makes its debut on Saturday. Hocus Pocus Corpus will be held at the Hilliard Center from noon to 3 p.m. This free event offers trick-or-treating, door prizes, and a community resource fair. It also includes a specific presentation on renters' rights, providing practical information for local households.
The variety of events allows residents to engage with their community in ways that suit their preferences. Whether through cultural remembrance, physical activity, or creative fun, the weekend offers multiple avenues for connection and support. Local organizers have highlighted the charitable components of several events, such as the food drive at the Halloween fest and the mental health funding from the cupcake dash.
