Buyers in the Middle East will be the first to see a new class of electric vehicle. BYD has confirmed that its most luxurious sedan will launch in the United Arab Emirates. This marks a strategic shift for the company. It will debut outside of its home market for the first time. No specific date has been set yet. However, the event is expected to happen this month.
The car is BYD's largest electric sedan to date. Its size and shape rival the Rolls-Royce Phantom. The company targets high-end rivals like Bentley and Mercedes-Maybach. This is a bold move for a brand known for affordable cars. The Seagull, a small hatchback, sells for under $10,000 in China. The new model signals a push into the premium sector.
BYD has expanded its lineup significantly in recent years. It now offers everything from entry-level EVs to large SUVs. The company operates three sub-brands alongside its main families. These include Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang. Yangwang sits at the top of this hierarchy. It serves as a showcase for the newest technology.
Earlier Yangwang models used a quad-motor platform. This system delivers 1,300 horsepower. It also features an intelligent body control system. This technology allows the vehicle to dance and jump. It can even drive on three wheels. The new sedan builds on this foundation of advanced engineering.
Hu Xiaoqing, the general manager of Yangwang, confirmed the launch location. He also released several images of the car undergoing testing last month. The vehicle was covered in disguise. Despite the covering, its shape matched the Maybach S-Class or Phantom. Local reports suggest the length is around 5,500 millimeters. That is approximately 216 inches.
Zheng Yu, the executive general manager, said the car will feature unprecedented disruptive technology. He did not provide specific details. However, some features have been inferred from recent sightings. The sedan was displayed at a Flash Charging station. This suggests support for megawatt charging. It also has rear-hinged coach doors. This is a first for BYD.
The model is reportedly the first to use solid-state batteries. Stella Li, an executive vice president, told Carwow.es that the first such vehicle would debut in 2027. The new sedan fits within that timeline. Rumored pricing starts in the 2 million yuan range. That amount is about $300,000.
This price places the car well above current offerings. The U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan. That is roughly $98,000. The lineup also includes the U8 and U8L plug-in hybrid SUVs. The U9 is an electric super-coupe. The extended U8L is currently the highest-priced mass-produced vehicle. It starts at 1.45 million yuan, or about $217,000. The new sedan will top the brand's price list.
