The final day of October in Portland, Oregon, brings a mix of cool conditions and the annual adjustment of clocks. Residents will gain an hour of sleep as Daylight Saving Time ends tonight, coinciding with a mostly cloudy evening for Halloween activities.
Meteorologists from KPTV forecast temperatures between 45 and 53 degrees Fahrenheit for the evening. While a slight chance for a stray sprinkle exists, most areas are expected to remain dry. Lows will drop into the 30s and low 40s overnight, accompanied by patchy fog.
The shift in timekeeping means sunsets in Portland will occur during the 4:00 hour until January 20. This change marks the end of the extended daylight hours that have been in effect since spring.
October has concluded with slightly warmer temperatures than normal for the region. The month also saw nearly two inches of rain fall at Portland International Airport over the last week. This precipitation prevented October from becoming the driest on record in the city.
The weather pattern turns mild as November begins. Sunday will feature morning fog clearing to afternoon sun with highs in the mid 50s. Monday will be mostly cloudy and mild, with highs in the upper 50s. Tuesday will see morning clouds giving way to mostly sunny skies and low 60s.
A weather system will move into the Pacific Northwest midweek, bringing light showers from Wednesday evening through Friday. Forecasters expect these showers to be weak with minimal accumulation. The following Saturday is trending toward dry conditions.
