Roope Hintz scored the game-winning goal at 3:47 of overtime, giving the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at American Airlines Center. The goal followed an immediate transition sparked by a defensive stop from Jason Robertson. Heiskanen collected the puck after Robertson blocked a Winnipeg shot and sent Hintz in on a breakaway. Hintz finished the sequence to secure the win for Dallas.
The overtime sequence relied on a shared defensive effort. Heika reported that a prior turnover by Robertson created the initial Winnipeg chance, but his subsequent block ended it. The Stars converted that stop into an attack within seconds. Heiskanen provided the assist, while Hintz handled the final touch. Neither defenseman scored during the game, but their defensive work directly enabled the winning play.
Dallas played without Esa Lindell, which increased the workload for its remaining defensemen. Heiskanen played 29 minutes and 20 seconds, while Thomas Harley logged 28 minutes and 27 seconds. Lian Bichsel followed with 17 minutes and 47 seconds of ice time. Nils Lundkvist, Tyler Myers, and Kyle Capobianco also appeared in the lineup. The heavy minutes for the top two defensemen reflect the team's reliance on their primary pairing in Lindell's absence.
The Stars trailed early in the second period after Josh Johnson scored for Winnipeg. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor later tied the game in the same period. However, the Stars fell behind again before Hintz scored a six-on-five power-play goal with two minutes remaining in regulation. That goal forced the game into extra time. The equalizer allowed Dallas to maintain pressure despite an earlier deficit.
Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, referred to as Skinner in the source text, made 35 saves to keep the game close. The Jets outshot Dallas 38-19, a disparity that forced Winnipeg to rely on its goaltender. Dallas generated high-quality chances but struggled to convert them until the late-game surge. The shot count indicates the Stars controlled possession for large portions of the contest, even when the scoreboard did not reflect that dominance.
Heiskanen finished the night with five shots on goal, one blocked shot, and the decisive assist. Harley also recorded no goals. The defensive duo did not need to score to impact the game's outcome. Their contributions were concentrated in preventing chances and initiating the attack that led to the victory. The game did not establish a new permanent rotation or a return date for Lindell.
The Stars won the game based on a single finish in the extra period. The result stands as a 3-2 win for Dallas. The team's shooting advantage did not immediately translate into points, but the defensive stability provided the foundation for the final offensive push. The game concluded with the Stars ahead on the scoreboard and the Jets out of chances to respond.
