Apple ships iOS 27.1 to iPhone Duo only
Other iPhone models will skip the point release and move directly to iOS 27.2 next week.

Apple pushed iOS 27.1 to the iPhone Duo overnight on October 22. The update is available exclusively for the new model. Owners of other iPhone devices will not receive this build.
Three key details define the rollout. First, users on standard iPhone models see iOS 27.0.1 in their software update menu. Second, Apple is bypassing the 27.1 version number entirely for those devices. Third, the next major release for the wider user base is iOS 27.2.
This split approach deviates from standard practice. Point releases typically deliver features to all compatible hardware simultaneously. Instead, Apple isolated the Duo update to keep the version separate from the rest of the lineup.
The company cited secrecy and engineering constraints for the decision. Although the iPhone Duo launched last month, specific features remained under wraps until recently. Skipping a public beta for iOS 27.1 helped Apple manage that information flow. It also simplified internal management of the Duo's custom designs.
iOS 27.2 has been in beta for about a month. It is scheduled to release to all users next week. The update includes Suggested Actions in Messages, a new Apple Music interface, and user profiles for Apple TV. Apple Podcasts receives a new Up Next queue, while FaceTime adds Dual Capture for group calls. Siri AI will also support additional languages.
Owners of non-Duo iPhones will move directly from iOS 27.0.1 to iOS 27.2. They will not miss any content that was exclusive to the 27.1 build, as that version was never intended for their devices.
