Anthropic, the maker of the Claude chatbot, has confidentially filed for an initial public offering. The company aims to list shares on a U.S. stock exchange later this year. The filing marks the first major public listing for a frontier artificial intelligence developer.

The company reported annual recurring revenue of $9 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. This figure represents a 140 percent year over year increase. Anthropic attributed the growth to enterprise adoption of its large language models across financial services, healthcare, and technology sectors.

Investors valued the private company at $183 billion during its most recent funding round. That round closed in August 2026. The valuation places Anthropic among the most expensive private technology companies in the United States.

The company plans to use proceeds from the offering to expand its research team. It will also increase spending on computing infrastructure to support model training. Anthropic stated in the filing that it expects capital expenditures to rise by 25 percent next year.

Dario Amodei, the chief executive of Anthropic, said the company is ready for public scrutiny. He noted that the firm has maintained a private structure to focus on long term research. Amodei added that public markets provide the capital necessary for the next phase of AI development.

The company reported a net loss of $1.2 billion for the 12 month period. The loss reflects high costs associated with data center operations and employee equity grants. Anthropic stated that it expects to reach profitability within 24 months of listing.

Amazon and Google are the primary backers of the company. Amazon holds a 30 percent stake in Anthropic following a $8 billion investment in 2024. Google holds a 14 percent stake. The filing disclosed that related party transactions will continue under strict oversight protocols.

The company employs 2,400 staff members globally. Most of its workforce is based in San Francisco and New York. Anthropic stated that it will hire 500 additional engineers and researchers in the coming year. The hiring plan aligns with its goal to release a new flagship model by early 2027.
